Build a life that you don't want to escape

Ryan Gray, Coach & Entrepreneur

Most of the people I work with aren't in crisis.

Their job's fine. Their relationships are fine. Their bank account is fine. On paper, nothing's wrong, but they wake up one day and realize that the life they've built feels empty for some reason.

They're always chasing something. The next promotion, the next fitness challenge, the next monetary milestone, the next vacation, the next relationship, the next anything. And just like the last time, after they achieve the thing, they'll move the goal post once more.

They're afraid that if they stop pushing they'll lose momentum and disappear.

They're constantly distracting themselves from the life that they've built themselves into – a life that they can't wait to escape.

They haven't fallen apart, at least not yet. They've just started to hear that little voice in the back of their head saying: Is this it? Is this all there is?

Listening to that voice is "the work."

Who Do I work With

What I DO

I started out as a productivity coach. My main goal was to help people get more done. But I started to see a pattern.

My clients had no idea what was really driving them, or why they wanted to be more productive in the first place. We would come up with these elaborate, deeply personalized ways of accomplishing more, but we never stopped to ask the question: Why is doing more always the answer to the problem?

So I shut it down. I started to question my entire process, and really dig at the root of the challenges my clients were facing. It ultimately led me to the fundamental understanding that – more does not mean better.

My clients were using productivity as a way to distract themselves from experiencing their lives.

Most of my clients are "Type A" personality. That means if they don't have a goal that they're actively working towards, they feel stuck, stagnant, lost, and very uncomfortable. I want to be very clear that in no way shape or form would I ever recommend that you stop moving forward towards a goal. I am however, a strong advocate for slowing down enough to make sure that the goals you're working so hard to achieve, will actually lead to more life satisfaction, and not less.

I'm not a therapist, a guru, or a shaman. I'm a coach for people who are done with surface-level fixes and want to do the actual work of building a life that they don't want to escape.

Less Woo – More You

The Stupid Gap

A 12-week, 1:1 coaching program for people whose lives look fine on paper – but feel empty

The stupid gap is the space between who you are and who you need to become in order to build a life that you don't want to escape. Everyone has their own version of this gap, but most people never cross it because they're trapped in golden handcuffs. They've traded a life of meaning and purpose for one that looks good on paper.

For 12 weeks, we're going to step into your gap.

How we'll get there

Why Me

I spent twelve years collecting titles as a First Responder operating as firefighter, paramedic, SWAT Medic, Public Safety Diver, Swift Water Technician, Fire Safety Instructor, and Mentor.

It made me feel useful and I was damn good at it.

I was also drinking too much, working too much, bouncing from relationship to relationship, and constantly searching for new ways to numb myself. It took a failed engagement, and a hard reset to finally see the patterns that had been running me since I was a kid.

This work isn't theoretical for me. I've walked the walk.
